Danny and Libbie Pippin, Chapter Directors
About the Directors
Danny and Libbie met in 1991 through a mutual friend. The friend was less than 5 feet tall and though she thought a lot of Danny he thought she was too short to date. That was Libbie's good fortune, huh? They married later that same year and he moved into Libbie's house with her two daughters. Having raised his two girls who were grown and married, it was quite an adjustment!
Looking for a hobby they both enjoy that would get them out of the house (no room on a motorcycle for teenagers), Danny talked to Mike Pitts about coming to give Libbie a ride on their Gold Wing. She liked the ride but asked Mike how did one see where they were going from the back? He told her Maureen was surely taller than I was and she could see over him—NOT! She learned since that co-riders focus on what’s to the left and right unless they’re leaning over the rider’s shoulder.
After deciding they would like to have a Wing, Danny found a used ’93 in Pensacola. Libbie remember him trailering it home and not even knowing how to crank it and get it to the ground. Shortly after they bought the bike, Danny took the motorcycle safety course and Libbie could surely tell a difference. Libbie gained confidence as Danny seemed much more experienced. He had ridden all kinds of bikes in the past but it was his first Wing. They continue to recommend that anyone take the motorcycle safety course!
Danny was the owner of a custom cabinet shop and knew many people in the construction business. Libbie had been a public educator all her career and they were looking for new friends to share their hobby. That’s when Mike and Maureen Pitts invited them to join Chapter FL1-L. Both got involved in the group and have made many rides. Their first long ride was to a Rider Rally in Richmond, KY. Since then they've been to the Honda Hoot in Knoxville, TN, the NC rally in Asheville, LA rally in Lafayette, a couple of AL rallies, MANY FL rallies and several region A rallies. Some of their most treasured memories are riding in the Smokey Mountains or the Daniel Boone Forest in Kentucky. They have done numerous poker runs and impromptu rides.
After getting involved in the chapter Danny and Libbie became the directors. One of the fun events they did was a progression ride to Biloxi MS. What a memory that was. They left PC about 4 p.m., picked up riders in Pensacola, Alabama and Mississippi. By the time they pulled into the Grand Casino in Biloxi at 10:30 p.m. there were more than 80 bikes of all kinds. What fun!
The friends made in the Gold Wing organization have been second to none. Danny and Libbie encourage everyone to get involved.
